This short film depicts a captured German 88mm FLAK gun, which is currently displayed at the Puckapunyal Tank Museum, located one hour north of Melbourne in the State of Victoria, near the town of Seymour. This gun was captured at the Battle of El Alamein by Australian troops, troops from the same units that formed the legendary "Rats of Tobruk".
In this film we commemo rate the ships that formed the backbone of the Royal Australian Navy in World War 2. Designed to be built quickly and in large numbers, these ships served in most of the main naval theatres of war and were indispensa ble in the initial stages of the war. A total of 60 were eventually built, and one is still afloat.
